The Balance of Ceramics
23 January - 1 March 2025
Frédérick Mouraux Gallery, Brussels, Belgium
Opening Thursday 23 January from 4 to 8 pm
For her new solo exhibition at the Frédérick Mouraux Gallery, Barbara Kandiyoti unveils a series of new works, whose tones shift between black and white, blue and gold, revealing a poignant poetic transcendence.
Barbara Kandiyoti’s fascination with mushrooms stems from her deep appreciation for their variety, intricate forms, and the environments in which they thrive. As a ceramic artist, she is drawn to their complexity and the way they reflect nature’s raw beauty, with all its imperfections— cracks, breakage, and decay. These flaws are elements she actively seeks to explore in her work, using them to introduce unexpected tensions into her clay pieces. What distinguishes her art is its vitality, authenticity, and the seamless integration of ceramics with natural elements. For Kandiyoti, working with “mother” clay is not just a technical skill; it is also a personal exploration that is deeply connected to the creative energy of nature.
