Henri WAGNER

Henri Wagner is a French contemporary artist.

His raw, brutal and exciting work is at the same time soft, transparent and calm; the tension of the gesture.

Henri Wagner's contemporary abstract works transcend the material from which the work is made. He uses an extremely wide range of materials: spray paint, plaster, gesso, ink, mortar, glue, wood, glass and paper. All of this has its origins in the world of graffiti.

In the spectrum of materials, he is a painter who sculpts. A literally layered composition characterises the work without appearing deliberate or compulsive. The image is often so obvious that it invites you to look further.

The continuous and unconventional way of constructing and decomposing images is typical of his working method. This leads to a fluid interplay of repulsion and attraction.

With ease, Henri Wagner intuitively composes his images in calm contrasts between soft and hard, movement and stillness, free and fixed. He freely combines materials, but manages to nuance them in such a way that the whole is experienced as serene.

Where the image stops, the experience begins. A show that leads nowhere, but in which it is pleasant to find oneself as a spectator. Just as music to the ear can stimulate all the senses, the complex simplicity of his work transports you into an experience that never bores you, and invites you to creativity, serenity.
